According to an unscientific process commonly referred to as "having an opinion", millions of pages worth of platform-war screed have clogged the internet for decades now with unnecessarily vehement brand loyalty. Where does all this bile come from? Particularly these days when the differences between computer brands are fewer than ever before, and cross-platform compatibility is higher than ever.

I agree! I didn't read the whole thread, but in response to the "Apple tax":
What about the Windows "antivirus tax" or the Windows "Registry tax" or any number of other Windows "productivity and performance taxes"?
Major virus/malware problems, the registry and the gradual Windows slow down are all problems from the past. In Windows 7, all that is needed is a good free Antivirus (like MSE) and the same common sense needed not to catch malware in OS X.
People who argue about Windows viruses, slowdown and registry sound just as silly as them who still claim Macs only have one mouse button in my opinion. Both are things from the past.

Although the particular organization was started fairly recently, I'm sure there was some reason that the organization was started.
My grandparents have been involved in an organization for many many years that is in support of a specific ethnic group. The organization doesn't deny membership to others but there are very few members who belong to the organization that don't belong to the ethnic group. The group was started due to issues that the ethnic group was having in terms of discrimination so they decided to organize and although the situation has improved, the group has still filled a need within certain members of the ethnic group.
Having said that, you better believe there are certain organizations within the US that would make it very difficult for a member of a minority group to join. And I'm not talking about the KKK (which is alive and 'well')

From the talks I've had with people from the Apple Professional Services group Apple feels that real world use of OS X server is very limited. Most of their work is integrating Active Directory with Open Directory. They see most of their customers using OS X Server as the authentication, group policy, and file servers for the mac units in their customer's businesses.
I would have to agree with that assessment. It's pretty much the task I am trying to set up at the university I work in . . . . if they would only give me the resources to do so.
I don't think there's too much heavy lifting and heavy customization going on with OSX Server in the SoHo, SMB, and enterprise sector.

All I use it for is Syncing between multiple Macs - which is handy but hardly a justification for the $99 price of admission.
That ALONE makes it worth $99 per year. Then I get IMAP email...then I get iDisk...and everything else. There is room for improvement, but I love the .Mac service.

This is a great widget, and itself justifies the upgrade to Tiger! BTW, I believe you can update any widget by selecting it, and then hitting command-R (just FYI for the summary in the first post).

10.4.7 is a total crap.
It caused kernel panic in my computer and made it behave totally erratic. I had to uninstall back to 10.4.6
I hope the new upgrade will solve many issues that were created by 10.4.7:mad:On your Quad G5? It runs like butta on mine. Did you make sure to use the Combo updater and not the Software Update incremental 10.4.7 updater? I always use the Combo.

Hmm...What stories to tell....
They'll usually ask you if you've done any kind of drugs, answer honestly so as not get the wrong dosage. Don't cheat by eating/drinking or whatever they don't want you to do the night before. When I went under, he stuck a needle in my arm and had me count backwards from 100...I hit 97 when he asked how I was feeling. I said "woozy" as the room had started spinning. I closed my eyes to stop it, and was out at about 95. Waking up kinda sucked, it's like your whole body is the numb kind of asleep and you can't control it very well. Having someone with you is a must.
My wife has gone under way too many times but seems to have handled okay every time. Although, they always removed something in her case, (appendix, wisdom teeth, fibroids, etc) and she would always get mad and demand them back in a drunken stupor.
My mother had double bypass and woke up in the middle of it. Then proceeded to have an out-of-body. The Surgeon insists that she was asleep the entire time, but my mom was able to recall details of the op that only those present and conscious would be privy to.
All in all its not bad...kinda boring, really....puts you to sleep as it were..

Yeah, I knew this was inevitable. (I'm running a 1.25 GHz G4 iMac.) That being said, for the applications I use (and this won't be one of them), I honestly don't see myself being forced to buy an Intel machine for a loooong time. Just because Adobe has decided to rpoceed in this manner doesn't mean other companies will follow suit. And you can bet that Apple definitely won't, at least not for a few more years. Heck, Classic was supported until what, last year essentially? And the G3 machines up until Leopard? ;) :cool:

definitely a lot of switchers in my book. I know at least 5 friends who have switched in the past year, and 3 more (including myself) who will be switching by the end of the year :p
