From that price, you can better buy a Mac and watch it in QuikTime... :)

I could also buy groceries for three months, but I don't see what that has to do with this being a Developer conference. Seriously people, this is a developer conference, not a consumer product showcase.

"When the economy is in doubt,
Run in circles, scream and shout."

You gotta love the Chicken Little histrionics from people who seven years ago gave the Republicans a blank check and said "Here, spend as much as you want, as long as you're killing camel jockeys and keeping America safe." Then when the dinner check comes, they want to kill funding for Planned Parenthood and NPR, which wouldn't make a dent in the debt incurred by The War On Terrah. Hell, the Shrub's plane ride to the "Mission Accomplished" banner probably cost more than two years' funding for NPR.

Of course it is unacceptable, and for this reason it is already illegal. ;)

What about denying somebody a job because of their, say, intelligence? Charisma? Any number of things that are largely predetermined?

I have been spending ours on this, searching and searching and searching to no avail. Basically, here's my problem. I use Better Touch Tool on my MBP for all of my trackpad gestures and it handles them quite well, except for one. I want to register a three-finger tap as CMD+SHIFT+CLICK or SHIFT+MIDDLE CLICK to open a link in a new tab and jump to that tab automatically in Chrome. The problem is that BTT only allows trackpad gestures to be predefined actions or keyboard shortcuts. The closest I've come so far has been setting three-finger tap to middle click and having to hold down shift, but I want the entire command to be key free. All I want to know is if there's a way to remap the Middle click to any of the F1-F12 buttons.

By the by, I've already looked at KeyRemap4MacBook

    Thanks for any help

That design is just awful. Reminds me of a cheesy alienware case:
Funny you should say that, because the company that designed the original 360 (and presumably this new redesign) is also the company that designs stuff for Alienware...

I'm puzzled by why these apps all just tout iPhone compatibility. Why not also the iPad?

I have an iPad with 3G and the built-in map sucks (compared to my real Garmin Nuvi). I'd pay to have good navigation on it. So why the hate from Garmin?

I think I have the hardware, don't I? I can receive 3G data, which also means my iPad has GPS. Isn't that enough?

Navigon has full support for the iPad, and you don't have to buy separate versions for iPhone and iPad.

It's not the first time that the Vietnamese got their hands on an unreleased iPhone. The question is why? It's not like that Vietnam has anything to do with anything.

It's their prize for winning the war. They get advance previews of all American technology.

On the 27th, it was imminent. There is another thread that mentions the release.

Apple has released a Mac Pro EFI Firmware Update in your Mac OS X Software Update. The update is described:

This EFI Firmware Update fixes several Boot Camp and start up issues on Mac Pro computers. If the firmware update doesn't run automatically, open it manually in the /Applications/Utilities folder.

Also available is a Mac Pro SMC Firmware update (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30862):

The SMC Firmware Update adjusts fan behavior in the Mac Pro. After this update has completed successfully, your SMC Version will be: 1.7f8. The updater application will be installed in the /Applications/Utilities folder and will launch automatically after restart.

Yep, this is an awesome app. You have to manually download the BETA version of Air Video Server for it to do Video Airplay though. The regular release does not support it.

The speed increase in the recent Server betas is fantastic. Seeking while watching live transcoded videos went from unusably slow to almost instantaneous.

    Publicity stunt?

I can't help but think that along with Steve's various email responses to customers, that Steve is morphing. Into what exactly, I'm not sure, but he seems to be more interested in responding to people. Maybe that new liver has something to do with it? At any rate, it's a very calculated move. Nothing he does is without a goal in mind.

All in all it was a computer and pefectly capable internet machine, but at least in an hour nothing even came close to winning me ove. Oh yeah it also crashed once too.

Care to be more specific? It's easier to address your "problems" if you can tell us what kind of hardware you were on, what version of the OS it was running, and what types of things you were trying to do that were "more accessible" in Windows?

Regarding intuitiveness, it's tough to objectively say that one is more intuitive than the other unless you've never used a computer before. You have a prejudice for where things should be from using Windows, as we do from using Macs. You expect things to work the way they do in Windows, and if it doesn't, it's "not intuitive" to you, not necessarily to other people.

It can be scrollable. And can't icons just be overlaid in the corner a'la Lion Mission Control?

It could be scrollable, but expose isn't scrollable so you're mixing metaphors. And it's not just about whether you can fit more than 9 apps - what if you're using bulky apps and can only keep 7 apps in memory at once (the iPad 1 had less memory, remember)? You're putting up invisible walls in your interface.

Little icons in the corner is one option, although in a way making the icon a sub-feature of the window implies that multiple windows could be associated with that icon, which isn't true. Even if you don't agree, it is just one alternative, and it would be presented along with all the other prototypes, and Apple apparently decided the multitasking pane was better. Expose isn't always an evolution.

The current implementation is also inconsistent in the UI department, in that the same action and will result in two different actions.

In some cases, a hold > jiggle > close will result in an app shutting down, and other times the same action set (hold > jiggle > close) will result in an app being deleted.

Are you arguing that the multitasking pane doesn't have clear differentiation from the home screen? I thought giving it a different texture, pushing the home screen up out of the way, and requiring a quick double-press to bring it up accomplished that.
